CCLC® Joins Forces with the KOIT Kids Book Drive to Support The Children’s Book Project
August 20, 2009
San Francisco, CA -- Child care provider Children's Creative Learning Centers (CCLC®) is partnering with 96.5 KOIT, Lite Rock, Less Talk, to support the station's fifth annual KOIT Kids Book Drive, benefitting the Children's Book Project. CCLC centers throughout the Bay Area will serve as public collection sites for the back-to-school campaign taking place August 24 through September 20.
"The drive for the Children's Book Project is an excellent opportunity for the public, as well as the employees and families at our centers to come together and support a worthy cause to benefit the children in our own backyard," said Fran Durekas, Founder and Chief Development Officer for CCLC. "We have a long standing history of educating Bay Area children and promoting literacy has always been a focus of our curriculum. Research by the University of Virginia has found that only 10 percent of students who read poorly at the end of first grade ever read proficiently in later grades. We recognize the need to inspire children to adopt a passion for reading at a young age. And, we're thrilled to be a part of a program, such as the KOIT Kids Book Drive, that encourages life-long learning."
The Children's Book Project was founded to help build literacy by providing free, new and gently used books to children who need them. To date, the project has given away more than 1.5 million books, helped thousands of children build home libraries and provided books for thousands of classroom and school libraries.
CCLC, in partnership with 96.5 KOIT, is helping to collect more than10,000 books, which will be distributed to teachers, afterschool programs, community groups and programs, local shelters and other eligible recipients. Donations of new or gently used books for ages pre-school through Grade 12 are welcome, along with online charitable donations.
