As Center Director, Shelly’s role is to create a safe, positive and enriched learning environment for the children in her care.  She is devoted to the well being of everyone in her center – children, families and teachers.  She develops and maintains strong relationships with the children and their families in her center.  She encourages parent involvement and establishes a sense of trust and security so that parents are comfortable at work knowing that their child is in a nurturing environment. In addition, Shelly acts as the on-site point of contact with our employer sponsor answering everyday questions and maintaining a positive relationship.

Shelley started working in the field of Early Childhood Education in 1996. Shelley’s experience is vast and ranges from working with preschool through school age children. Before coming to the Kids by the Bay center, Shelley was the director at the CCLC Atherton campus. Shelley’s education includes a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Santa Clara University and a multiple subject teaching credential. Since she started at CCLC she has enhanced her education by completing more than 8 early childhood education courses.

Her philosophy on children is simple; she believes that children learn best by discovering and experiencing the world around them. Children use their five senses to discover how the world works. It is much more powerful a lesson when a child finds what colors mixed together look like than if they are told that blue and yellow make green. Shelley feels from the time children are born they are learning and it is our job as early childhood educators and parents to provide the resources, structure and a safe environment for children to learn.
