EcoChild Care
CCLC is dedicated to providing safe environments in our centers and developing initiatives that improve the experience for our families and support our environment. As part of this dedication, we have developed a program focused on designing and managing child care centers that represent the safest place for children with an emphasis on a healthy atmosphere, organic meals and stewardship of our environment.
In the fall of 2007, we began working with the Oregon Environmental Council on their Eco-Healthy Child Care program. The program outlines best practices for creating healthy, safe environments in child care facilities and establishes criteria for centers to become endorsed as Eco-Healthy.
The program began in Oregon in 2005, and in February 2008 the national program was initially piloted in seven other states (CA, CO, FL, MA, ME, NC, and WA). The Eco-Healthy Child Care program will continue its national expansion, selecting new pilot states each year.
Since we began working with the OEC just over a year ago, we have now achieved Eco-Healthy endorsement in 100% of CCLC centers. View the KATU news video!
We are using what we have learned through this program to ensure our centers offer safe, healthy environments for our staff and families. Two CCLC regions, one in the Midwest and one on the East Coast, have started by replacing all aerosol products with healthier alternatives.
