Camp CCLC in the Bay Area – Weekly Themes
Here's what we did in Summer Adventures with CCLC in 2009! As we get closer to Summer 2010, we'll update with upcoming themes.
Bug juice, tetherball, and lukewarm local pools are fine for lazy summer days, but if you're looking to get your child actively involved in a summer program that's engaging and educational (shhh! don't tell them!), then listen up. We've got ten theme-based summer experiences that your youngster will actually look forward to sharing in those inevitable "what I did on my summer vacation" presentations--whether your child is a curious chef, aspires to appear on Dancing with the Stars, or intends to conquer the mighty jungle!
June 15 - 19: Destination Vacation: As the saying goes, "No more teachers, no more books..." it's all about the Summer Vacation! Join CCLC for a fun-filled summer where the destination is all about vacation. We kick off the summer using our imaginations and creating our dream vacations. Then it's off to the suitcase relay races, postcard designs and a field trip to Yerba Buena Gardens and museum.
June 22 - 26: A Day and A Knight: Off we go into the days of jousting and feasts! Who wouldn't want to compete in chariot races and build dream castles? Join the fun as we invent our very own crests, crowns and armor. Watch as the mystical magician amazes us with his magic of old! Bake bread with us for the feast of Kings and Queens. It's sure to be unforgettable!
June 29 - July 3: Safari Adventures: Get your binoculars and cameras ready as we hop on the safari bus to the Oakland Zoo and go on a safari hunt for one of this week's adventures! Animals are the name of the game as we learn about fascinating creatures such as the kinkajou and vulture when Wildlife Associates visits us with their rainforest animals. Learn about endangered tropical forests and laugh your monkey behind off when we play the elephant stomp. What's the elephant stomp? You'll have to join the summer camp fun this week to find out!
July 6 - July 10: Awesome Athletes: "Take me out to the ball game..." And we will! America's favorite summer pastime is shared this week with our summer campers as we embark on a field trip to a San Francisco Giants baseball game. Lather on the sunscreen 'cause we'll be having a ball in right field on the Coca-Cola playground and in the bleachers rooting for the home team. Baseball's not for you? Not to worry, we'll also find our inner chi during Yoga with Kids and our competitive streak during water kickball. Much more fun is planned for this week, so we hope to see you there!
July 13 - 17: 3... 2... 1 Action: Who says American Idol is the only way to become famous? Camp CCLC will accept all who "try out" (sign up) and come to camp ready to create and perform. Not only will CLAP theater arts be on board to help us with our very own productions, we will also venture out to the Children's Theater in San Jose to see their production of "Honk." Then get ready for game shows, dance performances, and the ever-popular karaoke challenge!
July 20 - 24: Wipe Out: Slip 'n' sliders rejoice! We'll break out the reserves of water as we wipe out on the all-time favorite: the Giant Slip 'n' Slide! Any camper in sight is sure to be all wet with water fun and games such as water dodgeball, water tag, and the ever-popular water balloon launch. This week's theme wouldn't be complete without a trip to the bowling alley for a few rounds of bumper bowling! While we're there, we will join in the age-old tradition of pizza and juice.
July 27 - 31: Bon Appétit: What better way to enjoy the summer than having a BBQ? During this week of cooking fun, we will also be joined by Chef Gabe from Bon Appétite Catering who will guide us through a yummy recipe. Then it's on to making our own ice cream, writing our own cookbook, creating spoon puppets and, of course, the pizza-making contest! This delicious fun is only the tip of the ice cube. Come and see what other tasty ideas we have in store!
August 3 - 7: Wacky World of Science: Yes, it's true ... Science can be wacky fun! What better way to discover this than a field trip to the awesome newly redesigned Academy of Sciences! Next, we'll turn our attention to experiments involving bending water, making electricity out of lemons, and the ever-popular Mentos and Diet Coke experiment. Let's not forget the natural sciences! Python Ron will pop in with his reptilian friends to teach us a thing or two about the world of snakes, lizards, tortoises, and arachnids. Creepy, but fun!
August 10 - 14: Design & Construct: Delve into designing and constructing with a visit to NASA Ames Research Center! Summer campers will learn how some of our nation's top brains design and construct space probes, satellites, and space shuttles that reach the depths of our universe! For some hands-on fun we will round out the week designing and constructing our own creations out of recycled materials, creating board games, and having Lego and Kinex rallies!
August 17 - 21: Gone Fishing: Ahh, the end of summer. Time to dig out the fishing pole and relax after a fun-filled summer. While the lazy days of summer might be winding down, the fun sure isn't! Our last week of summer camp will be packed with fun activities like designing a tackle box, fishing games, and snail paint races. We'll have a pajama day, make s'mores, and marvel at the insects when the Insect Discovery Lab comes to visit. Don't miss out on the end of summer merriment!
